Welcome to UNIverse
About UNIverse
UNIverse is an interactive choose your own adventure game developed as part of our final year assessment at Maynooth University.
The game itself is centered around student life and the various decisions and problems that students encounter throughout their third level education. The user must navigate through an in-game college week (five days) during which they play as a university student. Each day includes various pathways, with each choice made affecting the progress of the game. The end goal is to complete an assignment by the fifth day in order to pass the year.
To develop this game we have called upon our own experiences, as well as those of our peers, in order to make the gameplay as realistic as possible. Our goal is to develop a game which is true to what university life is actually like, highlighting the daily decisions and struggles that students go through. We hope that UNIverse can aid current university students, as well as prospective students and staff members, in understanding how crazy university life can be!
The Development Process
UNIverse was developed using Unity and Playmaker
Unity is a game engine that is accessible to all game developers, both amateur and professionals. It packs a ton of features that is flexible enough to make any game imaginable - be it 2D, 3D, and even Virtual Reality.
Playmaker is a visual scripting tool for Unity that uses finite state machines to build game behaviours and was a fundamental tool in creating the game's core mechanic - branching choices that impact the game's narrative
